New Zealand Privacy Week 2025

The 12th – 16th of May 2025 is New Zealand Privacy Week.

Run by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, Privacy Week is designed to raise awareness of privacy issues through themed communications and online webinars. You can see the full list of events here.

This year, New Zealand Privacy Week has a theme of “Privacy on Purpose”. To be purposeful and proactive with privacy because privacy done well can be a business advantage.

Here’s why you should care.

Each year the Office of the Privacy Commissioner runs a survey to learn about New Zealanders attitudes towards privacy. In its latest survey it found.

  • 55% of survey respondents were concerned about privacy issues and how their data was being collected and used. A 14% increase on the year prior.
  • 80% of respondents wanted more transparency, control and choice over the use of their personal information.
  • 28% of respondents avoided transacting with a business online because they were so concerned about how their personal information might be used.

Simply put, privacy concerns drive behaviour.

If you can demonstrate to your clients that you take their privacy seriously, you are more likely to win their trust and their business.
